Sign PDF

Add your signature to a PDF: draw it, type it or use a picture of it, then place it on any page with the date or initials. Nothing is uploaded.

or drop it here. Up to 100 MB. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

Choose a PDF and make your signature: draw it with a mouse, finger or pen, type your name in one of three handwriting styles, or upload a photo or scan of it, whose paper background is made transparent. Add it to a page, then drag it where it belongs and drag its corner to resize it. The arrow keys move it too, and plus and minus resize it. Add the date, your initials or a short text the same way.

Your signature is stamped into the page's content in your browser, like ink on paper, and the PDF is saved again after every change, so the download always matches what is shown. The rest of the page isn't drawn again: text stays sharp and searchable, and the document's title, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they were.

To fix pages that show sideways first, use Rotate PDF. To add a signed page to other PDFs, use Merge PDF.

Questions

How do I sign a PDF online for free?

Choose the PDF, then draw your signature, type your name or upload a picture of it, and press Add signature. Drag it into place on the page, resize it by its corner, and download the signed PDF. There is no account, and the PDF is never uploaded.

Is a signature added here legally binding?

This tool adds a visual electronic signature: a picture of your signature stamped onto the page, like signing a printout and scanning it back in. Many everyday documents accept that. It is not a certified digital signature and has no record of who signed or when, so if a document needs one, or you aren't sure, ask whoever asked you to sign.

Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, add it, then drag it into place on the page. Drag its corner, or use the plus and minus buttons, to make it bigger or smaller, and download or share the signed PDF from your phone.

Can I add the date or my initials?

Yes. Under Also add, the date box starts with today's date and the initials box with the initials of the name you typed; change either, then add them to any page. You can also add a short text, like your job title. Plain text is written into the PDF as real text.

Limits

This is a visual signature, not a digital one: it adds no certificate, no record of who signed or when, and nothing that shows whether the PDF was changed later. A PDF that already holds a digital signature shows that signature as no longer valid after any change, signing here included; the page warns you when it finds one.

Opens one PDF of up to 100 MB at a time, and up to 200 signatures, dates and text boxes. Form fields aren't filled in; text is placed over the page. Plain text that uses letters outside Western European ones is added as a picture of the text. The PDF is written out again, so its size can change a little. Restrictions on printing or copying set in the original are not carried over, and the signed PDF has no password.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. The files you open and what you type are never sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page. See the privacy page.
