or drop them here. HEIC and HEIF photos from iPhones and other phones, up to 50 MB each; other images become JPGs too. Nothing is uploaded.
Looks the same as the original. To hit an exact file size, use compress an image to a target size.
Off: the JPGs carry no hidden details at all: no location, date or camera. Turn this on to keep the date taken, for photo apps that sort by it.
How it works
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which takes less space than JPG, but Windows, many websites and older apps can't open it. Choose your HEIC photos and each one is opened by your browser, drawn at its full size and saved as a JPG, all on your device. You can convert up to 30 photos at a time and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.
Safari opens HEIC itself. Other browsers first load a HEIC decoder (about 0.7 MB) from this site, once; the photos still never leave your device. Photos come out upright, as your phone showed them. A file that is already a JPG, even one named .HEIC, is handed back unchanged and named .jpg.
By default the JPGs carry no hidden details: no location, date or camera. Tick "Keep the date taken and camera details" to copy when each photo was taken (with its time zone), the camera, lens and exposure settings, so photo apps still sort them by date. The location, serial numbers, owner names and maker notes are never copied. To check or remove the details in other photos, use remove EXIF data and location; to convert to PNG or WebP instead, use the image converter; to cut out part of a photo, use crop an image.
Questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
Open this page in Edge, Chrome or Firefox, choose or drop the .HEIC files from your iPhone, and download the JPGs one by one or all together as a ZIP. You don't need to install an app or a codec from the Microsoft Store.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A little, as any JPG does, but at the default quality of 92% the photo looks the same. Each JPG keeps the photo's full size wherever your device can draw it. The JPG is usually about twice the size of the HEIC file, because HEIC compresses photos better.
Does the JPG keep the date the photo was taken?
Only if you tick "Keep the date taken and camera details". Then the JPG keeps when the photo was taken, with its time zone, the camera and its settings. The location is never copied. With the box unticked, the JPG has no hidden details at all.
How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?
In Settings, open Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, but they take about twice the space. Photos you already took stay HEIC, which is what this page is for.
Limits
Opens photos up to 50 MB and 100 megapixels, 30 at a time: HEIC and HEIF from iPhones, iPads and other phones, and, in current browsers, AVIF. Other images (PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP) become JPGs too.
Phones can draw at most 16.7 megapixels, so 24 and 48 megapixel photos may be made smaller there, and the page says so; computers keep the full size. A Live Photo's movement is a separate video file and isn't converted; from a burst or a photo holding several pictures, the main one is converted.
The JPG is drawn in standard colours (sRGB), so the wider colours of recent iPhone photos can look slightly duller, and the depth map and HDR brightness data are left out. Transparent areas, which are rare in HEIC files, become white.
