    How it works

Choose photos or pictures, JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or GIF, and each one becomes a frame of an animated GIF, in the order shown. Drag them or use the arrows to change the order, sort them by file name, or reverse them. The GIF is made again in your browser after every change, so the download always matches the list. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Pictures of another shape than the GIF are fitted inside it with a background colour around them, or fill it and have their edges cropped. A GIF can only hold 256 colours, so the tool looks at all your pictures and picks the 255 that suit them best; dithering then mixes those colours in a fine pattern so photos don't break into bands. With a size limit set, a GIF that comes out too big is made again smaller until it fits.

To turn a clip of a video into a GIF instead, use video to GIF, and see how to make a GIF from a video for the sizes chat apps and sites accept. To make one picture smaller first, use resize image.

    Guide

    • How to make a GIF from a video

Turn a moment of an MP4 or iPhone video into a looping GIF: pick a few seconds, a width and a frame rate, and fit it under the size limit where it's going.

    Questions

How do I make a GIF from pictures?

Choose the pictures or drop them on the page, then drag them into the order you want. Set how long each one shows, the size and how many times it plays, and the GIF is made on your device and plays below the settings. Download it; there is no watermark and no sign-up.

How do I make the GIF faster or slower?

Change how long each picture shows: 0.1 seconds makes a quick animation, 1 second or more a slideshow. Any picture can have its own time, for example to hold the last one longer. Under Plays, choose forever, once, or a number of times.

Can I make a GIF from iPhone photos?

Yes. Choose them from your iPhone or iPad, including HEIC photos, and they open upright. Browsers other than Safari load a HEIC decoder from this site first, and the photos still stay on your device.

Can the GIF have a transparent background?

Yes. Tick See-through under Background, and the space around pictures and the clear parts of PNG or WebP pictures stay see-through. A GIF pixel is either fully clear or solid, so soft edges, like a shadow, become hard.

    Limits

Opens pictures up to 50 MB and 100 megapixels each, and up to 100 pictures in one GIF. A GIF is at most 1,280 pixels on its longer side; very long or large GIFs are refused before starting, at most 150 million pixels in all frames together, so a phone doesn't run out of memory. Browsers other than Safari can't open HEIC themselves, so the page first loads a HEIC decoder (about 0.7 MB) from this site.

Animated GIFs you add keep only their first frame. Colour profiles are not kept, so photos from wide-gamut cameras can look slightly duller. Browsers play frames shorter than 0.02 seconds slower, so that is the shortest time a picture can show.
